TomorrowToday.biz Core Values
In the past few weeks, we have attempted to pin down and codify our core values. At a gut level, we know who we are, but we need to ensure its more than just a gut level. We also need to be able to let others know about who we are, and what we stand for. People who want to connect with us need to know what they’re connecting with. For all these reasons we have tried to “freeze frame” our values.
This is not a “wish list” of what we want to do. It is a statement of our current reality, and what we want to live by.
We will use this list to help us remain focussed on who we are, and why we do it. These are helpful when we ask the question, “Is this a TomorrowToday person?” or “Is that what TomorrowToday is?”. That will in turn help us to define what we do, who we do it with, and why. Because we work in a virtual, fractal network, it is the adherance to these values that will ensure an indivdual connects with us and stays with us.
- We are measured on relationship. You live (and die) in the system based on the quality of relationships you have with the people in the system.
- We spend time (and money) on developing relationships.
- “The survival of the related”
- We recognise different personality types and methods of relating (we prefer the Enneagram as a basis for this work). EQ is critical.
- What you see is what you get. You don’t feel that people say one thing to you and another about you.
- We do not question motives.
- We do not have any enclaves or small groups developing internally.
- We practice what we preach. We live what we tell our clients.
- No “us and them”
- No distinction between owners/managers and everyone else. No hierarchy.
- We share lives, we share work, some of us even share money.
- We are not a company. We are a platform for people to come and play on.
- You must bring your hobbies, interests and self into the space.
- We respect different viewpoints, and do not aim to get everyone thinking the same way.
- We encourage robust interactions.
- Whilst we don’t feel that everyone in the company will become lifetime buddies with everyone else, but every person must find at least one key friendship developing within the company.
- Friendships don’t just happen, we must work on them.
- We do much better work because we do it together.
- We’re constantly experimenting and changing.
- We aim for healthy balance, and then constant destabilisation of the balance.
- We are always learning. We try and learn about what we’re learning.
- We demonstrate financial and relational generosity in allocating time and resources .
- Every person’s contribution is valued.
- We do non-profit work in an effort to add value to society in general.
- We work virtually. We have to work this way – its more than being tech literate, its about an attitude and a way of working.
