Seems that the really good ones are the drifters. Mine has changed salons 3 times since I found him (as a referral from a friend). Once when he was 'between salons' he even did a housecall. He's all over the place and now does interiors in the week and does hair on the weekend. And I will re-arrange my weekend and drive an extra 20kms just to follow him.

Why?

Cos he knows me, understands what I like, and don't. And I never have to tell him what to do - he instinctively knows what I feel like (I get bored easily and need to change my cut slightly every month).

And he's lots of fun, always in a crisis or transition (I end up playing agony aunt while he cuts) and has the best skinner.

What more could a girl ask for?

It's not a haircut - it's a relationship.

Barrie. Kom na my toe. Jean. Ek bly Noord van die Boereworsgordyn. Ek sal soveel gesels soos jy wil. Ons kan 'n bier ook drink. Ek sal jou hare sommer 'n boere-skeer gee en jy sal elke keer voel soos 'n splinternuwe sikspens!

Barrie - not sure where you'll be in Joburg, but you might want to try Studio 3 at Broadacres (near Fourways). Tel: 011 4650857. I go to Leanne. She did a similar thing to your "Grant" in that she found out about me and how my hairstyle should fit my lifestyle. The thing that "sold" me on her was when we recently tried a slightly different style and she said I could come in at any time if I was having difficulty managing it. I went in about three weeks later, she listened to my problem, did some more cutting (I have a lot of hair!) and didn't charge me for the wash, cut, blow-dry or consultation.

Barrie - do what I did for 5 years. I flew home to Joburg from London every 6 months for a hair cut cos my "Grant", who is also a drifter was just too good to leave. I have since found myself a new lady "Grant" in a town out west here and ever 6 weeks I drive up there on a Sat to get my hair cut. So I wont laugh at you - just suggest that you make your appointments with Grant when you go down to Durbs on business - will be a little cheaper than Jozi. even if you include the airfare.
