Night 3 without water or DSL
Look I don’t know what’s happening in this town? I just moved 600km to the heart of the South African economy, and into a suburb with a group running it who have an interesting sense of humour.
I kid you not, but I arrive home on night 3 (since the begining of the power outages) to find I have no water and my DSL connection is down. So I now have light, heat and sound, but no water or DSL.
Do these people sit in a room somewhere and say, “Look we’ve just hit them with 2 days of no power. They’re pretty rattled by that, so let’s push them over the edge by turning their water off, and will someone please call the phone company and tell them to cut DSL!”
I’m writting this on Day 4 (my DSL connection is back) but my water isn’t. I live in hope.

There’s that old line about Africa not being for sissies. Or for those with no sense of humour. When things like this start happening, it brings home the fact of how dependent our lives are on those basics such as electricity and running water.
And yet there are millions who keep body and soul together without those basics.
So either our municipalities are slowly (or rapidly) starting to come apart at the seams or the government decided that it was easier to deprive the ‘haves’ of the basic necessities than to supply the ‘have nots’ with said basics……
So maybe we start stocking up on generators, 50 gallon drums in our gardens to store rainwater and enough canned food to sink the titanic. Or we can just smile, grab a lukewarm coke and declare that we’re not sissies. Or humourless old farts…..

I hear Graeme is doing some secretive behind-the-scenes work with the Joburg municipalities…I think this is round one of the TmTd practical joke…time for you to think of some payback, Nuf Sed..
