The Economist’s Global Business Confidence Index 2006 (in the Economist, Jan 6 2006), lists the top 10 most optimistic countries as:

1. India
2. Ireland
3. South Africa
4. China
5. Philippines
6. Mexico
7. Australia
8. Singapore
9. Netherlands
10. Hong Kong

And the five least confident: Taiwan, Japan, Italy, France and Britain.
