Chinese EQ
Fortune magazine, 26 Dec 2005, reports that Chinese executives are smarter than American executives when measured for EQ (emotional intelligence). EQ measures the ability to blend reason with feeling, and usually covers four distinct categories: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management and relationship management.
The gap between the US and Chinese execs tested was negligible for the first two, but very marked and significant for the last two.
Given that China’s economy is predicated on guanxi, this should not be a surprise. (See Eric Hanson’s article on guanxi, here). Savvy Leaders have a lot to learn from China.
